Jasabelle/Chewie: You would never know the unspeakable abuse that Jasabelle (Jazzy) experienced in the first two years of life by looking into her happy little face now. She came into PRoNE after being removed from an abusive home (case is still pending), and never looked back. She landed on her feet, settling in nicely to one of our amazing behavior specialist foster homes. After two months of rehab and recovery, Jazzy was adopted by a wonderful family. Renamed Chewie, she now spends her days chasing the family cat and napping on her mom’s lap. She is one lucky pug - her mom works from home, so there is plenty of lap time! She is thriving, surrounded at last by unconditional love. Hooray for second chances!

Duchess: Duchess deserved more. And her family knew that. They made the difficult decision to surrender her to PRoNE, where they knew she would be taken care of and matched with a family who would lavish her with the attention they knew she needed. Duchess arrived in foster care October of 2012, with a stack of t-shirts. Her skin was red and itchy, she had a double ear infection and was almost completely blind. Her interests? Scratch and sleep. So began a journey to help Duchess: many trips to the vet and a new grain free diet. Duchess’ skin irritation and ear infections finally began to subside. But Duchess had another surprise in store for PRoNE: prescription eye drops helped restore much of Duchess’ vision. She could see, she felt better...and she began to play! Duchess won over the heart of a PRoNE volunteer who had recently lost a pug. Duchess was just what this family needed, and she was adopted two days after Christmas. Duchess now “rules” the roost and is loved by her forever human family and two pug brothers.

Bob: Karin, a PRoNE volunteer and trainer at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, received an email about a pug who had just been surrendered to ARL. His behavior evaluation was stellar, but sadly, Bob had medical issues and the already overwhelmed shelter had too many other animals in need of medical assistance to help Bob. They asked Karin if PRoNE would step in to help. Bob had an ulcer in each eye due to dry eye, an ear infection due to allergies & bilateral hip dysplasia. Bob’s health care needs had been neglected for several years. PRoNE agreed to take Bob, get him the medical help he needed and ultimately find him a terrific forever home. It was determined that Bob's left thigh had half the muscle tone of his right thigh. Given his young age, the severity of the dysplasia, and the pain it most likely caused, Bob was a great candidate for FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy). Bob's surgery was in August. After recovery, Bob was placed with a wonderful family in Maine. He is pictured above running and playing - made possible because of his successful surgery. PRoNE was very pleased to have helped yet another pug find their forever home.

Monty & Gizmo, a bonded pair: What’s better than a pug? Two! Six year old Monty (black) and his ten year old BFF Gizmo (fawn) were surrendered to PRoNE in April of 2012. The pair had spent most of their lives living in a crate with little human interaction. When the boys came into foster care, their new family worked hard on potty training and acclimating them to life in a house with humans and pets! Monty and Gizmo were quick studies.....they soon learned they preferred the love and attention they received in their foster home to their previous life of solitude. Who could blame them?! Initially, PRoNE attempted to place Monty in a new home by himself. As fate would have it - Monty proved he was NOT a city dog, he missed Gizmo and was quickly returned to PRoNE. We were very pleased when a family came forward, interested in adopting the pair of them. The boys now live with a wonderful family and have a Shih Tzu, Balboa and PRoNE Alumni, Honey. It takes a very special family to adopt a bonded pair and we are so happy the boys were able to stay together!
